10 weeks to go!

So today is exactly my 30th week. I have done some reading on the internet and I decided I should really be titling my post better. From no on, every Wednesday I will write a little bit about the baby – its weight, height etc and start my countdown.

I will update my post later tonight because I am running out the door for my Yoga class and then to my husbands parents for dinner. I got us a lovely treat for dessert – “A Very Berry Cheesecake” – I LOVE “Marks & Spencer” !!!!

Nurseries - to send or not to send?

During my last trip to the library I have picked up a Steven’s Biddulph book called “Rising babies” . I decided to educate myself a little bit and prepare myself to the new role I am going to play. It is not as if I were lacking some mother instinct but rather the pure curiosity of wanting to find out more if there is anything interesting I should know.

The book is titled “Should under 3s go to nurseries” - pretty self explanatory.
And here comes my verdict: the first chapter is complete rubbish. It pretty much states that if you send your child to such a institution, he/she will have some serious problems such as: aggression, lack of concentration and depression.

Now, I have to say that I personally am against putting a 2 week old baby into 8 hours x 5 days daycare but for obvious reasons, many of us don’t have many options but to send a child to the nursery at some point. There are a few people whos financial situation allows them to stay at home for the first 3 years of the baby’s life, but how many of us can really afford to do that?

The book however started getting better with the next chapter and described the basic concept of the child’s brain development which I found quite interesting.

My personal beliefs were not far from his latest ideas such as : if you can afford to work less than do it. Going back part time for the first year or 2 was always on my agenda but I have to say that this book managed to influence me a little bit. I was considering putting my child into a nursery for 2,3 days a week but now I am considering getting a babysitter.
What changed my mind was really a variation of many different factions and not only this book alone.

So my final verdict is a s follows:

Baby needs the attention 1 to 1 in the first year of it life. They also need much love and there is no one better suited for this role than a mother. If you have to go back to work consider employing a nanny or a babysitter.

As for the book: I don’t think there is anything important one needs to learn, you are much better of saving the 12 euro and treating yourself and a friend for a latte and chocolate muffin :)

A very social week

What a difference it makes when you do a bit of socializing; and we did just that the last few days. First of all we had Tom and Blandine for dinner last Saturday which was very pleasant. It is always nice to meet with the pair of them - they are easy going people and you do feel relaxed and comfortable around them . They just got a house themselves and they should be moving in soon. This aslo means that they should be starting they family soon (so they said) and we may have some friend with a baby too.

Then on Wednesday Steve invited us for a lovely meal to his parents house. Sam (his brother) is a Chef specialising in fish so I got a lovely treat - Sword wish in a tomato souse with asparagus and some magic ingredients. It was 6 of us all together that night. His youngest brother - Barry was there as well. It was great to see Steve, Sam and Barry getting along on so well. It was after seeing his family few years back that made me want to have a big family. I am hoping to have 3 children and maybe 4 if we win a lotto.:)

Oh and then on Thursday we met Mary in a Italian restaurant next to work. It was short and sweet afair as she needed to catch her train AT 7.20.

And to finish our week we had Marcin on Saturday night. He actually stayed over for a night and we took the advantage of the sunny Sunday and did absolutely nothing spending whole afternoon in the garden with our faces pointed towards the sun; caching the first rays of summer. There was this lovely halo around the sun which I managed to capture on my camera. I think its worth showing so ther it is.

Bear belly

I have heard the expression of “eating 4 two” but I have to say I think I have been “eating 4 four” recently. I have found myself constantly craving food. It was not so much the case at the beginning of my pregnancy as in the recent 2 months. Its getting to the stage now that I eat 2 breakfasts , 2 lunches , lots of snacks and dinner and then sandwiches or pizza before going to bed. I was trying to be very careful in the first 4 months - eating steamed fish and vegetables and now I have such a huge carving for fried food and chocolate.

Anyway, I asked Ed to take a few photos of me today and I played with them in Photoshop. I am quite pleased with the result so I thought I will post some on my blog.
Here they are, my belly and a lovely little bear with no name…. - yet
